Duration of results of Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler

The results of a treatment with Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers can vary based on several factors, including the type of filler used, the area treated, the individual’s metabolism, and the technique of the injector. On average:

  • Lip Fillers: Results typically last between 6 to 12 months. The lips have a lot of movement, so the filler can metabolize faster in this area.
  • Nasolabial Folds & Marionette Lines: Fillers in these areas can last from 6 months to 18 months.
  • Cheek or Mid-face Augmentation: These fillers can last up to 12 to 24 months.
  • Under-eye or Tear Trough: Results can last from 6 to 12 months.
  • Jawline & Chin Enhancement: Fillers can last between 12 to 18 months in these areas.
  • Hand Rejuvenation: Results can last up to 6 to 12 months.

It’s important to note that the longevity of results can also depend on the specific brand and formulation of the filler. For instance, certain products within the Juvederm or Restylane line might offer different durations of effect. Regular maintenance treatments can help prolong the results.

Downtime

After undergoing a Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler treatment, most patients experience minimal downtime. However, the exact duration and nature of the recovery can vary based on the individual and the specific areas treated. Here’s what you can generally expect:

  • Immediate Post-Treatment: Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness at the injection sites are common. These symptoms typically subside within a few hours to a couple of days.
  • Bruising: Some patients may experience bruising, especially if the treatment is done in areas with many blood vessels, like the lips or around the eyes. Bruising can last anywhere from a few days to two weeks. The use of arnica gel or tablets can help reduce the appearance of bruises.
  • Lumps or Bumps: It’s possible to feel small lumps or bumps under the skin post-treatment. These often resolve on their own within a week. Gentle massage can help, but it’s essential to consult with your practitioner before doing so.
  • Normal Activities: Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately after the treatment. However, it’s essential to follow any specific post-care instructions provided by the practitioner.

Contraindications

  • Allergies: Patients with a known allergy to any component of the dermal filler, including lidocaine (if present), should avoid the treatment.
  • Skin Infections: Active skin infections, such as acne, cold sores, or any other skin disease near the injection site, can be a contraindication.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: The safety of dermal fillers in pregnant or breastfeeding women has not been established. It’s generally advised to avoid these treatments during this time.
  • Blood Disorders: Individuals with bleeding disorders or those taking blood-thinning medications might be at an increased risk of bleeding or bruising from the injections.
  • Previous Reactions: Patients who have had previous allergic reactions or severe side effects from dermal fillers or any other injectable treatments should exercise caution.
  • Autoimmune Disorders: Individuals with certain autoimmune disorders might be at a higher risk of complications.
  • Recent Facial Procedures: Recent treatments like chemical peels, laser therapy, or other surgical procedures on the face might interfere with dermal fillers. It’s essential to discuss the timing of these treatments with our specialist.
  • Immunosuppressive Therapy: Patients on immunosuppressive therapy might have a higher risk of infections post-treatment.
  • Anticoagulant Therapy: Patients on anticoagulant therapy might have an increased risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
  • Permanent Fillers: Patients with permanent fillers in the desired treatment area should discuss potential risks and complications with our specialists.
  • Active Inflammatory Conditions: Conditions like rosacea, eczema, or any other active inflammatory skin disorder can be a contraindication.
